COMEC Prize

COMEC Prize is awarded to the individual who, in the opinion of the judges, has accomplished the outstanding achievement among the high calibre Officer Cadets and Pool Officers who make up the University Royal Naval Units, University Officers Training Corps, University Air Squadrons and Defence Technical Undergraduate Schemes and who are currently registered as either full-time undergraduates or postgraduates at a UK University.

The value of the Prize is £500 and is awarded annually.

Nominations for the Prize are made by the Commanding Officer/Officer Commanding of the Unit and co-ordinated through the relevant MEC for consideration by the COMEC Executive Committee to determine an overall winner.

Nominations consist of three elements:

  1. A nomination form consisting of the details of the nominee;
  2. A testimmonial by the Commanding Officer/Officer Commanding of the nominee’s unit, referring to the service record of the Officer Cadet, citing such outstanding achievements as are appropriate to support the nomination. (including academic, charitable and sporting etc. distinctions);
  3. A submission by the nominated Officer Cadet giving an account of his/her achievements taking the form of a brief CV, stating age and including details of experience prior to University. In particular, the candidate should cite how the Prize would be of benefit in the furtherance of his/her career which may or may not be in the Armed Services.

The Prize Winner is invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the full Council in September and to give a short presentation on their submission. The Prize is presented together with the COMEC Cup on which the Prizewinner’s name is engraved.
